The rule
No person shall cause or permit a motor vehicle engine to idle for more than one minute while the vehicle is parking, standing, or stopping adjacent to any school building (public, private, or parochial, pre-kindergarten through 12th grade) on a street or on school property.
What to photograph
- idling vehicle within one block of a visible school building
- vehicle with engine running parked on a street adjacent to school signage
- delivery truck or parent's car idling outside school entrance
- bus or van idling at a school pickup zone with engine running
How to file a complaint
- Video the vehicle idling for more than three minutes (non-commercial) or one minute (school zone).
- Capture plate and location; DEP enforces idling limits.
- File at 311 or via DEP idling complaint channels.
