Construction — Sidewalk Shed Required for Buildings Over 40ft

A protective sidewalk shed (scaffold canopy) is required when construction, demolition, or facade work is performed on buildings exceeding 40 feet in height. The shed must cover the full sidewalk width adjacent to the building.

• debris netting but no structural overhead protection for pedestrians
• workers on upper floors with no sidewalk protection below
• visible overhead construction risk with unprotected sidewalk

1. Photograph the site, permit signage (or absence), and hazard.
2. Capture job number from shed permit if posted.
3. File at 311 under Construction, Scaffold Safety, or General Construction.
4. Mark whether pedestrians are forced into traffic.
