The regulation
Construction work, including noise-generating activities, is restricted to 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM on weekdays. Work outside these hours requires a special after-hours variance permit from DOB. Weekend work also requires a variance.
What to photograph
- active construction work visible before 7am or after 6pm (check photo timestamp)
- construction equipment running on weekends without posted after-hours variance
- jackhammer, drilling, or heavy machinery use outside permitted hours
- nighttime construction lighting with active work visible
How to file a complaint
- Photograph the site, permit signage (or absence), and hazard.
- Capture job number from shed permit if posted.
- File at 311 under Construction, Scaffold Safety, or General Construction.
- Mark whether pedestrians are forced into traffic.
