Sidewalk or Roadway Cafe — Encroaching on Furnishing Zone

No portion of a sidewalk cafe or roadway cafe may be located in the furnishing zone, and no items associated with such cafe may be placed or stored in the furnishing zone. The furnishing zone is the area of a sidewalk parallel to the curb line containing streetscape elements such as street furniture, street trees, hydrants, signs, and lights.

• cafe tables, chairs, planters, or barriers placed in the curb-side furnishing zone (alongside street trees, hydrants, light poles, signs, or street furniture)
• stored cafe equipment (stacked chairs, folded tables, extra barriers) leaned against a street tree, lamppost, or sign pole
• cafe perimeter extending into the strip of sidewalk where street furniture is located
• cafe furniture occupying the curb-adjacent zone reserved for street trees and utilities

1. Photograph the obstruction from sidewalk level showing clear path width.
2. Capture any posted DOT dining license or permit if visible.
3. File via 311 under Sidewalk Café / Outdoor Dining, or use SidewalkSnitch dining analysis.
4. Describe how pedestrians are forced into the street or bike lane.
